The five Scottish Archives for Schools booklets give teachers and pupils the opportunity to work with specially selected and interpreted original sources to support aspects of 5-14 Environmental Studies – Social Subjects, People in the Past. Sources may also be used for learning post-14. Booklets 1-3 consider aspects of people, events and societies of significance and the nature of historical evidence. Booklets 4-5 consider aspects of people, events and societies of significance, change and continuity, cause and effect and the nature of historical evidence. Learning and Teaching Scotland has published a helpful document, 'A Curriculum for Excellence Reflection Guide', to help teachers, schools and resource providers in the transition from the 5-14 Curriculum to A Curriculum for Excellence.

The accompanying CD-ROM contains all the materials within the booklets and selected digital images, sound recordings of actors reading extracts from the original resources, and additional activities.

		Booklet 1. This resource contains units on the monarchy, the church, parliament, education, life in the country and the town, life in the home, clothes and food. 		Booklet 2. This resource contains units on the Jacobite cause, events from 1715-1744, the Jacobite rebellion and the Battle of Culloden,1745-46, and government action after the ’45. 		Booklet 4. This resource contains units on the monarchy, the First World War, women’s suffrage, unrest in the workplace, emigration, housing improvements and leisure. 		Booklet 5. This resource contains units on the declaration of war, evacuation, defending Scotland, attack from the air, daily life, agriculture, the armed forces, victory, remembrance and reconstruction. 		The CD-ROM contains materials from all five booklets and digital sound recordings of selected sources. Pupils and teachers can adapt the study units to suit individual needs and to create their own multimedia presentations. Cost: 15 GBP
