The five Scottish Archives for Schools booklets give teachers and pupils the opportunity to work with specially selected and interpreted original sources to support aspects of 5-14 Environmental Studies – Social Subjects, People in the Past. Sources may also be used for learning post-14. Booklets 1-3 consider aspects of people, events and societies of significance and the nature of historical evidence. Booklets 4-5 consider aspects of people, events and societies of significance, change and continuity, cause and effect and the nature of historical evidence. Learning and Teaching Scotland has published a helpful document, 'A Curriculum for Excellence Reflection Guide', to help teachers, schools and resource providers in the transition from the 5-14 Curriculum to A Curriculum for Excellence.

The accompanying CD-ROM contains all the materials within the booklets and selected digital images, sound recordings of actors reading extracts from the original resources, and additional activities.
