e-source 3a - Map of the Kingdom of Scotland, 1610

This map was made by a famous English cartographer, John Speed. It was published in an atlas called The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain in 1612. Speed combined surveys and historical research to create illustrated maps that were both informative and decorative works of art. The map includes Orkney and part of Ireland, engravings of King James and his wife, Anne of Denmark, royal coats of arms, a compass rose and vignettes of ships and sea creatures.
